Theatre Lighting
“You can see the world by candle light or by fluorescent light… which would you prefer?”
David's introduction to stage lighting came when he was 17 years old. A local lighting company had a contract with the Board of Education to supply lighting crews to their flagship auditorium.
Having helped out backstage on some amateur productions that the owner had ties with, he hired David as a lighting assistant “essentially moving anything heavy and running a follow spot for the shows”.
David dived into the opportunity and soon became the lead console operator – which also included designing the lighting. After about two years the owner decided to pursue other areas and asked David to take over all of the lighting management duties with the Board of Education which he happily accepted.
Today with over 200 professional designs produced, David Magladry is a well known, respected and requested lighting designer for live theatre. Highly collaborative, David is known for his inspired visual imagery and for creating designs that not only speak for themselves, but seamlessly blend with the overall theatrical vision.
Years active : 2006 - present
