Theatre Set
“A set is the glove that the hand fits into”
When David wanted to add scenic design to his portfolio he struck a deal with a producer who was embarking on a new show. Hire him as the lighting designer and he would as well submit a set design within 24 hours.
If his design presentation was a flop… at least he tried. If it was met with excitement and approval, he didn't want an extra pay cheque – just a promise to be asked to design the producer's next set… which he did.
Now 13 years later David has over 60 scenic designs to his credit – many of them being built by his hand as well.

“The true star of this production is undoubtedly the stage design. The set, designed by David Magladry, shows enormous attention to detail.” - Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lilly Sarah Haley - The New Ottawa Critics
“David Magladry has designed and lit a beautiful set.” - Communication Cord Jim Murchison - The Charlebois Post
'The stage comes alive on that magnificent set by David Magladry.” - The School for Wives Alvina Ruprecht - Capital Critics Circle
“the cottage set perfectly designed by David Magladry feels realistic, warm, and exactly like a place which someone who admires old-time, authentic homes would desire.” - Communication Cord Rajka Stefanovska - Capital Critics Circle
“Enhanced by David Magladry’s Oval Office set and lighting.” - November Iris Winston - Capital Critics Circle
“Mamet’s play unashamedly embraces one chaotic day in an Oval Office neatly re-imagined for the Gladstone stage by set designer David Magladry.” - November Jamie Portman - Capital Critics
“David Magladry’s set captures the grinding poverty of the Mundy home.” - Dancing at Lughnassa Brian Carrol - Apt 613
“David Magladry's accurate depiction of period for the set and lighting of Flea in her Ear adds to the sense of anticipation.” - Flea in her Ear Iris Winston - Capital Critics Circle
“David Magladry's elegant set was most effective.” - Flea in her Ear Alvina Ruprecht - Capital Critics Circle
“simple yet stylish set design” - Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf Joseph Hutt - On Stage Ottawa
“David Magladry’s set design is a definite tribute to these characters trapped in a nightmarish metaphor. The abstract black painting spattered in white drops is a birds-eye replica of the stage. We are staring into the gaping mouth of a piece of art.” - Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf Kat Fournier - Capital Critics Circle
“an impressively authentic and detailed set design by David Magladry.” - The Perils of Persephone Jennifer Cavanagh - Apt 613
“a thoughtfully naturalistic set by David Magladry.” Maestro Patrick Langston - Artsfile
“David Magladry has transformed the stage into a scaborous attic room with rotting beams, insultation poking out of discoloured walls and an ugly ceiling light with a distinctly frayed shade. Given the relentlessly naturalistic set, you almost expect the elderly radiator on one side of the room to start clanking and sputtering.” I Do Not Like Thee Dr. Fell Jamie Portman - The Ottawa Citizen
“David Magladry’s symbolic set compliments Kelly’s direction, as he helps set the atmosphere perfectly.” Tuesdays With Morrie Maja Stefanovska - Capital Critics Circle
“fantastically designed show” Tuesdays With Morrie Allan Mackey - On Stage Ottawa
